Whitman, Brown Spar Over Maid Scandal In Heated Debate

I applaud any woman who runs for a leadership position. However, I don't think that Whitman represents the balance of pragmatism and heart I am used to seeing in female leaders.

Whitman literally seems to be approaching everything like a business. We see a lot of evidence to support that her business tactics treat the working class as disposable assets.

The Social Disconnect -- How Hollywood Misread Facebook

Well said. Social Networking is also a very powerful tool in education as people tend to learn better in small groups.

Social Networking has a lot of social learning involved and the application possibility is vast. Many educators use the approach of "constructivism" in social learning to emphasize the idea that the teacher or "venerable authority" may not always have the best up-to-date answer to all potential questions in any given learning environment.

While most of us are used to the "objectivist" approach where the instructor, education institution or "guru" provide all the answers, social networking in education pushes people to learn critical thinking skills.

While some may not use critical thinking skills on MySpace, they may be used on Facebook, WordPress, the Huffington Post or other social media outlets. These critical thinking skills are used in the various small and large communities while participants written communication skills improve.

Social Networking also seems to be having an impact on how to communicate more effectively so that readers can identify when a comment is attacking a person instead of the issue/subject intelligently. This may lend itself to a future of readers and writers who can decipher and decrypt all of the political spin present in media in general.

So movie plot aside, Social Networking is here to stay as it is slowly integrating into education and the media in an indispensable manner. Diversity in ideas is one of Social Networking biggest contributions.

Rutgers Student Believed To Have Committed Suicide After Classmates Allegedly Recorded Him In Gay Sexual Encounter

This is a real shame. This is one of the reasons I always try and correct young students from referring to things as "gay" because of the current trend in America. The bottom line...It is all the tiny little overt and covert forms of oppression that build atop of a person's mind and heart.

Once they begin to believe that they are a second class citizen whom has to fight for their rights they begin feeling isolated and alone. Meanwhile the foul language of "Gay", "FAG" and other colorful metaphors contribute to a hostile environment that can lead to people taking their own loves.

The sad part is occasionally youth go through "questioning" phases that involve exploring the fluidity of sexuality, but they are not necessarily gay. You can definitely "know" at 18 but I have seen many question and choose a heterosexual lifestyle because they cannot get past the "shame."

This effects everyone, gay or straight, black or white.

One day this will become clear on its own.

Despite America's Temper Tantrum, It's Still a Center-Left Nation

What we really need are democrats that are not afraid to bite! Because it seems that the center right part of the country is way more willing to lie, cheat and steal to meet their objectives. Meanwhile many of these "principled" Democrats won't fight dirty.

The real issues like unemployment rates, health care and subsequent education development (for competition in the job market) are marginalized, leaving Americans to listen to the loudest bully around.

Critical thinking is in order to ensure that neither side appropriates the real issues. This way agenda items such as jobs, education, & health care stay in focus until they are appropriately resolved.

The problem is that while education is imploding, emerging adults or uneducated voters will not have the necessary tools to make informed decisions.

This makes education and even bigger priority to ensure equality.

With limited understanding of cogency/critical thinking (not to mention, why or when they should be used), how can a voter make responsible choices without a good education?

In "melting pot" America, such critical thinking are a part of "content standards" on a state/federal level. But how can we do this effectively if our education system is too crowded to impart this effectively?

Clearly, the "miseducation" of America benefits the agenda of the right.

Wealthy politicians should not be deciding policy for the less affluent. The issues only become tokens to negotiate with meanwhile their children still get the best education in private schools. Fiscally, we are still right.
